The Defiant reported that this brief surge made FWA the second-highest-earning protocol on Ethereum, behind only Sky (an unspecified top earner).
This is not a story of innovation. It is a textbook signal of speculative liquidity overflow in a bull market—a short-lived vortex where capital chases random outcomes because real yields are scarce and attention spans are shorter than block times.
Context: The Liquidity Map and the Search for Yield
We are in a bull market. Bitcoin oscillates between $60,000 and $70,000. Ethereum’s gas price hovers around 20–30 gwei. Institutional inflows via ETFs have stabilised the macro floor, but retail speculative energy remains restless. In such an environment, capital flows down the risk curve, seeking high-velocity bets. NFT gacha—a mechanism where users pay ETH for a random chance to mint a unique NFT—is the purest expression of this behaviour: low barrier to entry, high asymmetry of payout, and zero fundamental value.
Fake World Assets launched on Ethereum in July 2024, following a earlier version that was taken down (the article does not specify why). The protocol is a simple smart contract that dispenses random NFTs from a predefined set based on user payments. The team is two people, anonymous, no audit disclosed. On July 20, the contract was redeployed and immediately saw a spike in activity.

Core Insight: The Mechanics of a Liquidity Vortex
