A lightweight protocol that allows any battery, any thermostat, any EV charger to register, validate, and trade demand response across utility boundaries. Think of it as the ERC-20 standard for electrons.

Volume tells the truth when price tries to lie.

Look at the volume of interconnection requests vs. actual new capacity. The ratio is 10:1. That's the true signal. The market is screaming for a faster, cheaper, more flexible way to bring new resources online. And that requires solving the oracle problem—real-time, trusted, tamper-proof measurement of distributed energy resources.

The carbon rebound risk is the hidden variable.

Every major tech company claims 100% renewable energy for their data centers. But during heat waves, when the sun sets and solar drops, those same data centers draw from the grid mix—which is overwhelmingly fossil-fired during peak events. The result is a massive gap between carbon accounting (via RECs) and actual carbon emissions. This is the greenwashing crypto is often accused of, but the AI industry is far guiltier.

Efficiency is the price we pay for speed.

We didn't get here by building more blockchains; we got here by making existing ones interoperable. The grid needs the same pragmatism. A VPP protocol doesn't need to be a full sovereign chain.
